Who Must Officially Withdraw from the University?
Students and PhD candidates who have completed their studies, or who have decided to drop out of university, must withdraw from university via the page online semester enrollment. Withdrawal from the University is always done at the end of a semester.
A certificate verifying withdrawal (Exmatrikel / deregistration) can be ordered at the Student Administration Office of the University of Zurich.
Leaving the University at the End of the Semester
Students and PhD candidates who want to withdraw from the University at the end of the semester must go to the page online semester enrollment and click on the corresponding link (please note the deadlines for semester enrollment) .
Leaving the University during the Semester
Students and PhD candidates who want to withdraw from the University during the semester (i.e. withdraw after registering at the University) must contact the Student Administration Office.
Please read the following provisions. By signing the application for withdrawal from the University (below) you confirm you have read and are familiar with the terms for the procedure. (See also the regulations on the registration procedure and semester enrollment (RüMIS) from 30 November 2011, in German Reglement über die Modalitäten des Immatrikulationsverfahren und der Semestereinschreibung (RüMIS) vom 30.11.2011).
Withdrawal from the University does not release you from taking examinations for already booked modules. And, withdrawal from the University does not negate valid deadlines (e.g. the limited time period to complete modules).
You bear sole responsibility for canceling modules and/or assessments for two-semester modules. You must take care of all cancellations before the advertised deadlines and prior to officially withdrawing from UZH. If you fail to cancel on time, you will receive a failing grade for all modules you booked.
Deadlines and what to hand in
Please send the following documents to the Student Administration Office in order to withdraw from the university:
- the signed form Gesuch um Exmatrikulation (application to withdraw from the University, in German only)
- the four proof-of-registration vouchers issued for the current semester
- the course attendance booklet (if you have received one) for the current semester
- UZH Card (student ID)
The Student Administration Office must have received all documents by the following dates at the latest to withdraw a previous registration or to give a refund for fees paid.
15 October for the fall semester
15 March for the spring semester
