Mobility and Transport
Getting around in Zurich
Public transportation in the city of Zurich is dense and well planned, and residents can get around by bus, streetcar, regional train, and boats. Young people up to age 25 are eligible for discounts on monthly and annual passes. You can find an overview of all fare options and zone prices, as well as the live schedule, directly on the ZVV website:

Low-Impact Mobility at UZH
With around 40,000 staff and students spread across 250 buildings in Zurich and neighboring municipalities, UZH generates the same level of traffic as a medium-sized town. It has a significant effect on the urban environment. To encourage healthy and sustainable ways of getting around, UZH offers discounts on bike-sharing and bicycle subscription schemes for all students.
Discounts on Bike-Sharing Schemes
As a UZH student, you benefit from discounts on bike-sharing schemes run by Voi and PubliBike.
Voi – E-Bike and E-Scooter-Sharing
As a student at UZH, you benefit from exclusive special rates on the entire Voi scheme in Zurich – with 800 e-bikes and 800 e-scooters throughout the city. On the standard price, the unlocking fee is waived in full and the rate per minute is 36% lower than the regular rate. If you commute regularly, a monthly subscription is even cheaper: 300 minutes for CHF 27.95 or 750 minutes for CHF 59.95 per month.
Here’s what to do:
- Download the Voi app and register using your UZH e-mail address (other e-mail addresses are not eligible for the UZH discount). Anyone who already has a Voi account must first delete it under Profile > Account (cogwheel icon) and then set up a new account using their UZH e-mail address.
Download the Voi app from the Apple Store
Download the Voi app from the Google Play Store - In the app, navigate to Help > Support.
- Under “Chat with us,” ask about student discounts and select the “Voi 4 University of Zurich” discount scheme.
- The chatbot will open a form. Enter your first name, surname, and UZH e-mail address – the same one you previously used to register with Voi.
- After 1–3 working days’ processing time you will have access to the special terms and conditions.
PubliBike – Bicycle, E-Bike and E-Scooter-Sharing
With a BusinessBike subscription, the first 60 minutes on a bicycle or the first 15 minutes on an e-bike or e-scooter are free – perfect for the typical commuting distance from the station or from home. The subscription costs CHF 59.00 per year for the Zurich local area or CHF 169.00 per year for the whole of Switzerland. You can sign up directly via the PubliBike app using your personal UZH e-mail address and a promotional code.

Discounted Bicycle Subscription
As a UZH student, you also have the opportunity to take out a bicycle subscription with SwitchBike at a preferential rate.
SwitchBike – Bicycle Subscription
SwitchBike offers a flexible bicycle subscription without the obligations that come with ownership. Subscribers get a quality city bike including maintenance, repairs and theft coverage – and they can cancel their subscription at the end of any month. With the UZH discount the bike costs CHF 24.70 per month. There is no minimum term and you can cancel at any time. The offer is especially useful for students who are spending only one semester at UZH. You can book a trial ride directly on the SwitchBike website.

Expansion of Campus Infrastructure
A sharing hub is being set up at the Schlieren campus. Dedicated parking zones are being created at the City, Irchel and Oerlikon campuses so that shared bicycles, e-bikes and e-scooters from all schemes can be parked properly.
